Oakland (KRON) — Two teams, one stadium. That’s the possibility that the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers are considering.
KRON 4’s Mike Pelton reports that both teams are unhappy with their current stadiums, and are looking for any possible way to get a new one.
One option is to build a joint stadium in Carson, a suburb of Los Angeles near LAX. Both teams are calling this option a last resort if they can’t get a new stadium in their home cities.
Newly elected Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf released the following statement about the possibility of the Raiders leaving Oakland.
“As an Oakland native, I know how important it is to fans that we work to keep our Raiders here at home where they belong. This is why one of the first things I did when I took office was to bring the County and the City together with the Raiders to continue to explore ways to privately fund a new home for them in Oakland.
We’re in the middle of these talks, with the Raiders in full negotiation mode, which means they are publicly exploring all of their options as part of the process. The Raiders have explored options in the past and I am sure they will do so in the future. I remain focused on delivering a deal that works for the Raiders, the fans and the taxpayers. Oakland deserves nothing less.”
