SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Dozens of protesters took over Mayor Ed Lee’s inauguration at San Francisco City Hall to call for the firing of Police Chief Greg Suhr over the shooting death of a 26-year-old man by officers last month.

The ceremony took place Friday 11:30 a.m., several protesters chanted and held up signs with the messages “Fire Chief Suhr” and “Justice for Mario Woods.”

Police officers in riot gear stood aside as deputies escorted some protesters out and confiscated their signs. It’s unknown at this time if there were any arrests.

Woods, a stabbing suspect, was shot and killed Dec. 2.

Police have said five officers opened fire on Woods after he moved toward them with a knife. Videos circulated widely on social media that appear to show Woods, who was thought to be a suspect in an earlier stabbing, limping away from officers at the time he was shot.

Police, however, maintain that Woods raised the arm holding the knife and appeared to pose a threat to the officers.

Woods’ death prompted a review by Chief Suhr’s office and the Police Commission at the department’s use of force policy.
