(KRON) — Napa County sheriff’s officials said deputies fatally shot a man who shot at them as he drove away in a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to 911 calls from concerned residents reporting a man was shooting a gun in the area of Bueno Street and Linda Vista Avenue in Napa.
When deputies arrived, the man began shooting, sheriff’s officials said.
“To protect ourselves, and the greater public, our officers fired their service weapons fatally wounding the man,” according to the sheriff’s office.
A witness tells KRON4 News that a shooting near Bueno Street and Linda Vista in Napa had the West Park Elementary School on lock down.
But the lockdown was lifted at around 3 p.m.
Julie Herdell, the principal of the elementary school, announced over the intercom that the school was on lockdown, according to a teacher at the school.
Parents were not being allowed to pick up their children at this time.
The school is at 2315 West Park Avenue.
No one else was injured in the shooting, sheriff’s officials said.
