CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (KRON) — Authorities are investigating another shooting that happened on Highway 4 near Antioch on Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Police said the shooting began on surface streets in Antioch near state Highway 4.

Antioch police reported shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday that a shooting occurred on Sycamore Drive near L Street and that several suspects were taken into custody.

Police said four suspects have been arrested. Police said several rounds were fired with a rifle, but the gunfire apparently did not hit any victims.

Meanwhile, two suspects that were occupants of the Jaguar were taken into custody by Antioch police.

There were unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot that were struck by bullets, police said.

The Jaguar and a second vehicle sped away and entered westbound Highway 4.

Officers caught up to them at a Shell gas station on Bailey Road where Pittsburg meets the community of Bay Point.

CHP officers located and stopped the other vehicle several miles farther down westbound Highway 4, according to police. Two more suspects were then taken into custody.

Firearms were recovered from each of the vehicles, according to police.

Shots were fired on the freeway, authorities confirmed to KRON. But it has not been determined whether the shooting spilled onto the highway, as Contra Costa County sheriff’s officials initially said reports indicated, Antioch police said.

Antioch police said the shooting “began” on Sycamore Drive, which leads to Highway 4, but did not elaborate further on the circumstances of the shooting.

There was no one injured by the gunfire, apparently, police said.

Contra Costa County sheriff’s officials initially said there was a shooting incident reported on Highway 4 near Bailey Road in the Pittsburg area sometime before 3 p.m. on Monday.

The incident follows a trend of 20-plus shootings that have been reported on highways in Contra Costa and Alameda counties since November.

As recently as Wednesday, also on Highway 4 in Pittsburg, a woman identified as 25-year-old Shanique Marie died as a result of a shooting on the highway’s westbound side near Railroad Avenue.

California Highway Patrol Officer Brandon Correia said investigators were checking the highway for evidence.

Police said there are not believed to be any suspects outstanding in connection with the incident. None of the suspects arrested have been identified by police so far.
