OAKLAND (KRON) — East Bay Regional Park District police have shut down a popular hiking trail to investigate a homicide after a man’s body was found Tuesday morning.
According to park district spokeswoman Carolyn Jones said, the victim is a Hispanic man in his 20s and he appears to have died of a gunshot wound.
A visitor walking along the Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline discovered the body around 9 a.m. in a grassy area just off the Bay Trail, west of Interstate 880 across from the Oracle arena.
The visitor flagged down an Oakland officer to report the body.
It’s unclear how long the body was there before it was discovered.
