CONCORD (KRON) — A concerned citizen safely located the missing 11-year-old boy with autism on Friday afternoon.
Zachary Jordan-Smith is a high functioning autistic juvenile, who was seen in the area of Port Chicago Highway walking northbound towards the North Concord BART Station before he was found.
“I called the boy and I told him to stop, don’t move,” Alice Caruthers said. “‘And when the freeway cleared up, I ran over there and I grabbed him. I told him just hold on, I’m going to get him across the freeway. Once it slowed down again, I had his hand, and I ran him across the street…I told him, ‘My name is Alice, What is your name?’ He said, ‘Zachary.'”
Zachary was located by a concerned citizen in the 900 block of Ellsworth Street in San Francisco on Friday afternoon at 2:33 p.m., after hitching a ride from Concord to San Franciso on BART. Officials believe he took BART to San Francisco to arrive at his previous pre-school, where he was located.
Sgt. Lisa Springer was about to get off shift when she heard the call on the radio that Zachary had been found. As it turns out, her son and Zachary used to go to the same school in Concord.
Springer said she knew Zach’s mom.
Zachary’s parents have left his school, Holbrook Elementary School in Concord, to reunite with him in San Francisco.
