SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A police brutality protest underway in San Francisco on Friday evening.
The rally is organized by groups including Bay Area ANSWER Coalition. It was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. at Justin Herman Plaza, 1 Market St., San Francisco.
As of about 3 p.m., 1,200 people had responded that they planned to attend on Facebook.
Protesters are marching down Market Street, carrying a “STOP Racist Police Terror in the U.S.!” sign.
Traffic is expected to be a mess in the area. Protesters were marching toward Market and Fifth Streets. The intersection was closed, but has re-opened.
Protesters are now at City Hall.
SF Muni is being rerouted due to the protest. Riders are asked to expect delays.
Here are some summarized points from the CHP of what you should do if you are stuck in traffic:
1. Be careful if you’re approaching pedestrians; even though they shouldn’t be there, they don’t want anyone to get hurt.
2. Call 911. CHP will respond.
3. STAY WITH YOUR CAR; getting out of or abandoning cars only adds to the confusion.
4. Don’t break any traffic rules (don’t go the wrong way, drive in reverse, etc).
5. Obey CHP officers on scene (they may tell you to do something that would ordinarily be illegal).Bay City News contributed to this report.
