BRENTWOOD (KRON) — An Oakley man was arrested last weekend in Brentwood for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under the age of 10 inside a church restroom, police announced Wednesday.
Ladell Smith, 19, was arrested on suspicion of multiple felony counts of sexual assault and child molestation, according to Brentwood police.
The incident happened Saturday at the World of Life Christian Fellowship Church located at 4501 O’Hara Ave.
Officers responded to investigate a report of a sexual assault of a male child under the age of 10.
Police said Smith allegedly sexually assaulted the victim in a restroom inside the church during non-service hours.
After the assault, Smith fled on foot.
Police were able to apprehend him a short distance from the church. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
The victim was found at the scene physically unharmed and was reunited with his parent.
Police said both the victim and Smith were members of the church.
The suspect has ties to Richmond, San Francisco and Oakley, and it is believed there may be other victims, police said.
