PINOLE (KRON) — A creek is running at levels so high that it actually wiped out a large portion of a road near Pinole.

The overflowing creek washed away Alhambra Valley Road near Castro Ranch Road between 9 and 10 p.m.

The major road through Contra Costa County was damaged due to the unrelenting storms across the Bay Area, according to a county spokesperson.

Commuters who use Alhambra Valley Road, which just south of Pinole, are advised by police to use alternative routes.

The road is closed indefinitely from Castro Ranch Road to Bear Creek Road.

According to city officials, a pipe under the roadway allowed the creek to flow on either side of the road, but as the storm progressed, pressure through the pipe was too forceful and the powerful stream of water

washed the road away.

Several other roads across the county have also been shut down due to recent weather related incidents such as flooding, mudslides, and fallen trees.

County crews are working safely and quickly to repair any damage and remove debris, but there is no estimated timeframe for when the roads will reopen.
