BERKELEY (KRON) — The new Legends Aquatic Center at UC Berkeley is scheduled to open in September, and on Friday, more than 1 million gallons of water began flowing into the latest training facility for Cal swimmers.

Returning from the Olympics in Rio where athletes who went to Cal brought home 19 medals, coach Dave Durden welcomes the new training opportunities for Cal swimmers.

The Cal swim team has been hampered by too many training hours and not enough time.

Cal swim team members Hunter Cobleigh and Nick Silverthorn surveyed the new pool from the top of the 10-meter diving tower.

That tower will fill a large gap in training for those who do jump.

The new aquatic center was named for past Cal legendary athletes, some of which made significant donations to make it a reality.
