ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — A young Alameda County sheriff’s volunteer who was murdered was laid to rest on Tuesday.

There was a large turnout for the funeral of Karla Ramirez. The service was held at St. John’s Church in San Lorenzo.

The sheriff’s office says more than 600 people attended, many of them from the law enforcement community.

“Karla was living her dream of becoming a police officer and was a role model for other young people to follow. She was the pride and joy of her family and her dreams were their dreams.

They are a strong and courageous family. Karla will never be forgotten and her life has motivated many young people to continue on with public service careers,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

Ramirez was found stabbed to death and her body burned at an Oakland park.

Two people have been arrested and charged with her murder.

Ramirez was 21 years old.
