SAN JOSE (KRON) — More than 100 children and staff have come down with the stomach flu at a school in San Jose over the past two weeks.

Hand-washing was being stressed Friday at Horace Mann Elementary School in downtown San Jose.

There are about six to eight new cases every day. Symptoms include diarrhea and vomiting.

Germs almost certainly are being spread by close contact between the kids. Playground equipment is highly suspect of harboring germs.

The school has been scrubbed top to bottom, twice, and crews will do so again on Friday night and over the weekend.

The spring production of Aladdin has been postponed because of the outbreak, and parents are being asked to do their part to stop it.

The good news is that the mini flu epidemic that has touched roughly 20 percent of the student body at Horace Mann has shown signs of spreading to other schools in town.
