SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Not everyone is onboard with the project to build a new state-of-the-art basketball arena for the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco.
On Thursday, the Mission Bay Alliance, and the mother of a critically-ill UCSF hospital patient, filed a lawsuit to stop the already approved project.
This is the second lawsuit filed by this group in about a month.
Jennifer Wade, the mother of the critically-ill 6-year-old boy named Magnus, and the organization opposing the arena, the Mission Bay Alliance, filed the lawsuit together.
And it was filed against several city and San Francisco county agencies–not the Warriors.
It alleges the environmental impact report was done improperly.
Wade said the proposed arena being just blocks from the new UCSF Children’s Hospital would create traffic nightmares for hospital families.
And, she said, it would disturb their quality of life.
Wade’s son has a congenital heart disease that will require many trips to the hospital in Mission Bay.
“It’s going to be really a traffic nightmare,” Wade said. “Maybe not all the time, but certainly sometimes, and the thing about medical emergencies is that they happen 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. So, I just don’t see how people are going to be able to get to the hospital when they need to.”
Renderings of the arena show an 18,000-seat facility, which the Warriors hope is ready for the 2018-2019 basketball season.

During three years of intense public scrutiny, the Warriors arena won approval from 100% of boards, agencies and commissions that considered the matter: the Board of Supervisors, the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure, the Mission Bay Citizens Advisory Committee, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, and the Planning, Entertainment, Port and Public Utilities Commissions. The decision of our
elected leaders to bring the Warriors home to San Francisco will be upheld by the courts, and this frivolous lawsuit brought by a secretive group of wealthy donors will fail.
