YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — Both missing Southern California off-duty firefighters have been found safe in Yosemite National Park.
Fullerton Fire Chief Julie Kunze says firefighter Dave Brown walked into a ranger station Tuesday morning. He is safe and in good health. Capt. Javier Avelar was found a short time later. His condition was not immediately known.
KFSN reports (http://abc30.tv/2ckX780 ) Brown and Capt. Javier Avelar planned a six-day backpacking trip near Hetch Hetchy and did not return Sunday. Their vehicles were discovered in the park on Monday.
Yosemite National Park officials say the two Fullerton firefighters planned to hike the Smith Meadow Trail and finish through White Wolf Sunday.
Both are experienced backpackers.
