RICHMOND (KRON) — A memorial service will be held Friday in Richmond for a police officer shot to death last week during a domestic dispute in his Vallejo home.
The service for Richmond police officer Augustine “Gus” Vegas, 58, will start at 10 a.m. at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium at 403 Civic Center Plaza. The service is open to the public, according to police.
The beloved officer was shot shortly before 4:40 a.m. in his home at 35 Narragansett Court in the Glen Cove neighborhood.
30-year-old Robert Vega, the father of Vegas’s 6-year-old grandson, allegedly shot and killed Vegas. Vega appeared in court this week but did not enter a plea.
A burial service and reception after the memorial service is open only to family, friends and law enforcement officers, according to police.
A memorial fund has been set up to help the family of Vegas, who was a 15-year veteran of the police department. Vegas was also involved in helping foster children through a nonprofit and was parenting a foster child. To donate
