NOVATO (KRON) —

UPDATE SUNDAY 10:11 P.M. – According to Jeff Veliquette of the Novato fire, the fire district got a call from the supermarket, of some foul odor.

Apparently, a man threw a plastic bag at the meat counter which then fell to the floor and exploded.

The smell was awful and upon arrival the fire district decided to evacuate the building and obtain a sample of the liquid.

The liquid was reddish in color, and was mixed with other substances.

After testing the liquid, the results of human waste products, urine, and feces were found to be in the unknown substance.

According to the fire department, the main focus was getting everyone to safety and cleaning up the mess, but they are investigating as to who is responsible for this act.

The store will be open tomorrow following normal business hours.

Sunday evening Novato Fire personnel and the Marin County Hazardous Materials Response Team responded to an unknown substance spilled inside the Harvest Market at the San Marin shopping center.

The incident is currently under control. The Harvest Market is currently closed and evacuated until further notice. There is no threat to any of the surrounding businesses or neighborhood.

If you are in the area, emergency personnel is asking you to avoid the Harvest Market to permit emergency personnel to safely operate at this emergency.
