CONCORD (KRON) — A man was struck and killed by a vehicle near the Concord Pavilion early Monday morning, a police spokesman said.

The collision was reported around 2:30 a.m. near the concert venue at 2000 Kirker Pass Road, Concord police Cpl. Christopher Blakely said.

The pedestrian, whose name has not yet been released by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office, was hit in an eastbound lane of Kirker Pass Road, Blakely said.

The driver stayed at the scene of the collision and cooperated with investigators.

As authorities were investigating the crash, investigators learned a Clayton police officer, on an unrelated case, accidentally struck the pedestrian as the man was lying in the middle of the roadway, police said.

Concord police and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the fatal crash.

Both the citizen’s and officer’s cars were towed and are being looked at for evidence, police said.

Kirker Pass Road was closed for a few hours following the collision but has since reopened, according to Blakely.
