ALAMEDA (KRON) — A man who was shot and killed Saturday night in Alameda near the bowling alley has been identified as 19-year-old Oakland High senior Antwaun Williams, according to police.

At around 9 p.m., multiple people called 911 to report a shooting in the 300 block of Park Street across the street from the Alameda South Shore Center, police said.

Responding officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to Highland Hospital where he died, police said.

Police interviewed people who were in the area at the time of the shooting.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office also responded to collect evidence.

Friends and family posting on Facebook said that Williams had gone bowling at the AMF Southshore Lanes bowling alley when he was shot in the parking lot.

They said it appeared he was an innocent bystander caught between a fight between other men there at the time.

Police Lt. Matthew McMullen said that so far investigators haven’t confirmed that Williams went bowling that night but are reviewing extensive surveillance footage from the bowling alley and surrounding homes and businesses trying to piece together what happened.

Police have not determined the motive for the shooting and could not immediately provide a description of any suspects.

Williams was a varsity football player at Oakland High School.

A small ceremony was held Monday to remember him, even though school was not in session, according to the school district. His classmates wrote messages on a wall for him.

Williams’ classmates at Oakland High School wrote messages of love to him on Monday.

“He was funny, friendly and full of life,” said Oakland High School Assistant Principal Shoshanna Towers.

A GoFundMe page was established on behalf of Williams’ mother and had raised over $4,700 as of Monday afternoon.
