RICHMOND (KRON) — A homicide investigation is underway after a person was found dead in Richmond Thursday morning, California Highway Patrol officers said.
CHP officials found the body at around 12:26 a.m. on Hilltop Drive near the onramp to eastbound Interstate Highway 80.
The body was found at the top of the onramp. Police believe the man walked up the onramp after being shot at the bottom of it. He then collapsed once he got to the top.
Authorities first said that the pedestrian was struck by a car, but then later said that the person had multiple gunshot wounds. Shell casing were also found at the scene.
The onramp to eastbound I-80 at Hilltop Drive was closed while authorities investigated. The onramp has since been reopened.
The victim is a Hispanic male. No other information on the victim has been released.
