DALY CITY (KRON) — A man is dead after falling down a cliff at Thorton State Beach in Daly City, according to CHP.
Fire officials requested help from a CHP helicopter to rescue a man shortly after 11:30 a.m.
The 67-year-old man fell 500 feet over a cliff at Thorton State Beach while trying to rescue a dog.
The dog survived the cliff rescue.

San Francisco, CA – At approximately 11:12 AM this morning, a 67-year old male, reportedly attempting to rescue his dog, fell from the cliffside at the southern end of the Fort Funston area to the beach below. The man was later pronounced deceased. National Park Service Rangers, United States Park Police, Daly City Police, California State Park Rangers, San Mateo County Coroner, California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Francisco Fire Department and Daly City Fire Department responded. A CHP helicopter removed the man from the beach to a nearby parking area. NPS Rangers and US PP officers are investigating the circumstances of the fall. The National Park Service advises the public not to attempt to rescue pets from cliffsides as this frequently results in injuries.
