CONCORD (KRON) — A man and a dog killed tonight in a one-alarm residential structure fire that also injured a woman in Concord, firefighters said.
The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported via Twitter just before 9 p.m. that firefighters were on the scene of a car fire inside a garage that was also on fire in the 2400 block of Tanager Circle.
Firefighters arrived to find a garage on fire and a vehicle parked just outside the garage which was also mostly on fire. It’s not clear whether the fire started in the vehicle or the garage, however.
A man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A woman was transported to a hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
The family dog was also killed.
Fire investigators are at the scene, and will begin trying to determine the official cause of the incident after the last “little bits of fire” have been fully extinguished, according to fire officials.
Marshall said there wasn’t much fire damage to the home other than the garage. Most of the house sustained smoke damage, however.
Roughly 25 percent of the home was lost, and Marshall estimated the damage at $120,000.
Firefighters have not yet determined whether the home had functioning smoke detectors.Bay City News contributed to this report.
