SANTA CRUZ COUNTY (KRON)— A fire that broke out in the Santa Cruz Mountains has grown 4,474 acres and is now 66 percent contained Sunday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The fire started around 2:45 p.m. on Monday near Loma Prieta and Loma Chiquita roads in Los Gatos. This is just 10 miles away from Morgan Hill.
Twelve homes and 16 buildings have been destroyed in the fire and 163 structures are threatened.
About 2,000 firefighters are working to extinguish it.
An evacuation center is open at the Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church at 16970 De Witt Ave. in Morgan Hill.
Firefighters expect the flames to be contained by Oct. 3.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
