OAKLAND (KRON) — Women who breastfeed their babies in public places can get mixed reactions.

A brand new addition to the Oakland airport provides some comfort and privacy to both the mother and baby.

Breastfeeding a baby is a natural thing, but it is not always easy in public. It can be a real challenge for moms and babies who travel.

At the airport, where are you going to find a private spot to breastfeed or pump? At Oakland International Airport, there’s now a lactation station.

It is a private pod, where babies and moms can breastfeed in peace. No stares or glares, just quiet time.

Four-month-old Maya and her mom Maren tried it out for the first time. Right now, these lactation suites are in both Terminal 1 and 2.

They are the first in California, and so far, they are a big hit.
