FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — A Fort Wayne teen is being credited with saving a man’s life. It all happened inside an Indiana Walmart.
Rashaad Moore is a Sophomore at Northrop High School. When he’s not on the football field he’s working to make extra money.
Moore said for the last five years he’s been working for his neighbor Ray, doing odd and end jobs because he’s a disabled veteran. He could never have imagined what happened on one of their routine trips to Walmart.
“He started shaking,” said Moore. “Then when he started shaking I was like Ray are you okay?”
His neighbor Ray wasn’t okay, so 15-year-old Rashaad sprung into action.
“I told 911 to hurry up because… I was pretty scared,” he said.
Rashaad said it turns out he was suffering from a heart attack.
“So I turned off the chair and immediately put him on the ground,” said Moore. “I already knew from my basic history what to do.”
He’s not certified but says he did know a little bit about CPR- and he got it from an unlikely place.
“TV shows,” he said. “Basically what I knew was from Sponge Bob.”
He applied what he saw there with some basic common sense. Moore said he did CPR for about 4 minutes until emergency personnel came.
“I didn’t feel like I was really a life saver,” he said. “I felt like I just did the job of what I need to do as a teenager.”
EMS workers said had it not been for him, Ray would not be alive.
“You know I’m really glad about what I did but he’s still in pretty bad condition,” said Moore. “All we can do is just pray for him and really just send some prayers out to this man.”
Moore said he’s going to go visit Ray. He said he is still in critical condition.
