SONOMA COUNTY (KRON) — Human remains of a man were found in a shallow grave at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park on Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies have identified him as 18-year-old missing man Kirk Kimberly, of Cotati.

At around 12:05 p.m., Sonoma State police were told by the school’s groundskeeper of a possible dead body in a wooded area of campus west of parking lot M.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department responded and determined that it was human remains that were found.

A pathologist from the county coroner’s office, a district attorney’s office investigator, and crime detectives unearthed the remains, said Sgt. Spencer Crum.

“There’s no time restraint,” Crum said.

The remains were “in the form of a body and are not just bones,” Crum said.

Police say the body had not been there long due to the amount of deterioration.
