OAKLAND (KRON) — Across the street from the somber scene of the Ghost Ship fire, stands a glimmer of love.
During a heavy downpour of rain, community members came together to put up a metal tree in honor of the warehouse fire victims.
Shimmering hearts dangle from the wiry branches. Written on each heart is the name of one of the 36 people who did not survive the flames last Friday night.
Local artist Elizabeth Dougherty says whether or not someone is a part of the art community, “Everybody’s is feeling it,” in regards to the painful loss of lives.
Dougherty did not know any of the victims, but “Every time there’s something that’s specifically about honoring the victims of the fire,” she says, “I want to be there.”
