RENO (KRON) — A possible active shooter had been reported in downtown Reno on Tuesday night, police said on Twitter.
But at around 8:20 p.m., a shooting suspect was detained and later died.
Police say the gunman who fired shots from the high-rise condos to the street below is dead.
No other injuries have been reported.
The shooting happened in the area of Second Street, Sierra Street, Fourth Street, and Commercial Row.
Side streets were closed during the investigation.
Deputy Chief Tom Robinson told reporters Tuesday night that the man had died after a SWAT team went to the 8th floor of the Montage and engaged him. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he was killed by police gunfire or his own.
Robinson says the man had a hostage and was firing from a condo in the building down to the street below, but neither the hostage nor anyone else was hurt.
The luxury high-rise is surrounded by some of downtown Reno’s most popular casinos, but the streets were mostly empty when the man was firing.
This was happening near the Silver Legacy, Eldorado, Circus Circus and Harrah’s casinos.
Authorities say gunshots were going off for at least 20 minutes.Stay with KRON4 for updates on this breaking news story on-air, online, and on the KRON4 app.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON:
