OAKLAND (KRON) — The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is conducting an investigation in East Oakland Wednesday, according to Oakland police.
Oakland police and the ATF entered a home in East Oakland in connection with two gun store burglaries in Folsom and Rocklin, according to KRON’s Dan Kerman.
The ATF is working on the investigation in the area of 68th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, police said. Oakland police are assisting.
Helen Dunkel, a spokeswoman for the ATF, declined earlier to elaborate on the investigation or say whether it was connected to the burglary of two gun stores in the Sacramento area by suspects with Oakland ties.
But KRON has confirmed that some of the 240 guns stolen over the last several months have been recovered, and arrests have been made.
The California Highway Patrol asked Bay Area residents Wednesday morning to be on the lookout for a black Honda CRV involved in burglaries of gun stores in Rocklin and Folsom.
The Rocklin store, Rocklin Armory at 4800 Granite Drive, posted surveillance video of the burglary on its Facebook page showing a black car pulling up onto the curb and backing into the storefront repeatedly, smashing the front glass and the security gate. The post said the burglary happened at about 4 a.m.
The car’s license plate number of 6VCB742 is clearly visible in the video.
Once the gate is smashed, four suspects rush in. They leave about a minute later. The gun store also posted photos of the four suspects.
The CHP said that two rifles and 20-25 handguns were stolen in the burglary. One of the suspects had “Oakland U.S.A.” on the front of his hoodie and the vehicle was from Oakland.
