SAN MATEO COUNTY (KRON) — Firefighters are working to contain a spreading wildfire in San Mateo County Tuesday morning, according to San Mateo County officials.
The fire was first reported around 7:30 a.m. in the western hills near Skyline and upper Bear Gulch Rd.
Officials are telling people in the area to expect to see heavy smoke, and aircrafts assisting in fire operations.
The fire is about 50-to-60 acres and is 30 percent contained, fire officials said.
Chief Ghiorso says there is a plan to close Kings Mountain Rd. from the Park to Skyline Blvd.
“We ask that all traffic stay clear of Kings Mountain Road to allow Fire apparatus easy access,” he said.
No evacuations are in place. But there is a threat to KV transmission lines.
There are about 175 fire personnel on-scene.
There are no reports of injuries at this time.
No structures are threatened.
Officials believe that due to the high volume of lightning strikes in the area, that could be the cause of the fire.
There were over 1,000 lightning strikes around the South Bay and Santa Cruz County areas, officials said.
Since then, seven fires have broken out, three of which are still burning (including this vegetation fire).
