OAKLAND (KRON) — Four Oakland police officers have been put on paid administrative leave after an incident involving an assault, police said.

Officer Cullen William Faeth was arrested for assault on Dec. 7 during an incident involving four off-duty police officers, Oakland police confirmed.

Faeth was arrested and he and the other three officers were placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

Police declined to provide any further details about the alleged assault, calling the case a “personnel matter” and citing an ongoing internal affairs investigation.

The incident went unreported for months with no comment from the department until a leaked report in the East Bay Express detailed the allegations against Faeth.

“The Oakland Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct involving our employees seriously,” police said in a statement Wednesday. “Ensuring internal investigations are swift, fair and objective is our priority.”

The case has been sent to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible criminal prosecution, police said.

Further details on the incident will be released when the investigation is complete.

On Wednesday afternoon, the victim in the case gave her emotional recount of what happened.

A claim filed by the victim’s attorney identifies the two officers as Sgt. Joe Turner and Faeth. They were allegedly involved in the incident.

Olga Cortez, the victim, spoke at a press conference at the office of attorney John Burris.

“The officer continued to use vulgar language, and I came towards the outside where they were standing, and out of nowhere, he kind of…faced my direction and then just walked towards me, and jumped on me, and grabbed me really, really tight and we fell to the ground,” Cortez said. “And as a result…I had some bruises and some injuries to my right leg.”

“My husband pretty much pulled him off of me,” Cortez added.

Mayor Libby Schaaf has issued a statement about the case:

“I expect all city employees to conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism whether they are on or off-duty, in or out of uniform. So I take this allegation of misconduct extremely seriously. As Mayor, it’s my job to ensure that the investigations are thorough and fair, and that the process yields a complete resolution that we can all be confident in.”
