SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Elder abuse is among the charges now former San Francisco 49ers’ tight-end Bruce Miller, 29, is facing.
This after police say he roughed up a 70-year-old man and his 29-year-old son Monday morning at a Fisherman’s Wharf hotel.
The 49ers have since released Miller.
On Tuesday, KRON’s Philippe Djegal explained what led to the charges.
Hours before taking this mug shot, witnesses saw blood pouring from the gash on Bruce Miller’s forehead shortly after San Francisco police say he battered a 70-year-man and his 29-year-old son outside their room at the Fisherman’s Wharf Marriot Hotel.
Both victims were visiting from Illinois.
Miller stands 6 feet 2 inches and is listed at 248 pounds, dwarfing his victims. Ofc. Carlos Manfredi says that led to enhancing the criminal charges.
In addition to making threats, he is facing charges of aggravated assault and battery, and elder abuse.
“Given his age…and the age of the suspect…there’s clearly a huge age gap in the severity of the injuries as well that the victim suffered,” Manfredi said.
On the mend, the 70-year-old man was hospitalized with a facial fracture.
His son’s injuries, Manfredi says, are less severe.
Surveillance video at the Travelodge, across from the Marriot, shows a disoriented Miller leaning on a wall, then possibly throwing up before police officers arrived to take him into custody.
This comes after police say Miller knocked on the victims’ hotel room across the street early Monday morning, mistaking their room for his.
Witnesses said he was intoxicated at the time.
“The son, the second party to the victim, came out, advised him you got the wrong place, and a verbal altercation ensured, which led to a physical confrontation,” Manfredi said. “That’s when the father, the 70-year-old-male victim stepped in to intervene and was also assaulted.”
Miller has since posted bail.
At this time, this case has yet to be presented to the district attorney’s office.
