FAIRFIELD (KRON) — Firefighters and police in Fairfield are evacuating residents on Santa Barbara Way due to a four-alarm fire.This fire actually started on a trail behind the homes, police said. It’s an old railroad track that runs the length of the city. At least three homes have been damaged. The fire was first reported at 4 p.m.
Police are advising people to avoid the area, according to a tweet. East Pacific Avenue is closed from North Texas to Dover.
Ten homes have been evacuated, police said. The fire is moving slower as of 5 p.m.
The fire was contained to two homes on a detached garage.
No injuries reported.
Police said there is a homeless encampment near the trail where the fire started, and they are looking into whether someone there started the fire.
No arrests have been made. Four people were detained at the scene but released when police determined they were just trying to put out the flames, police said.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army is currently helping residents with water and meals.
