PACIFICA (KRON) — Crews are taking the final steps before tearing down an entire apartment complex, a building that was once home to more than a dozen residents.
On Tuesday, workers in protective gear removed items so they can get to parts of 12 apartments that contain asbestos.
The complex was red-tagged recently after it was deemed unsafe by the city.
The complex is right on the bluff in Pacifica. The fear was that it could fall into the ocean at any time.
As far as the asbestos, this is what they found:
“We found the asbestos in the flooring materials in the kitchens and bathrooms of 12 of the 20 units,” All Bay Environmental spokesman Travis Howell said.
To prevent asbestos from getting into the air, several monitors have been set up to test the air. Crews will be back at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Demolition has been set for Thursday.
