SEATTLE (KRON) — In Seattle, a speeding Mustang sheared into pieces after it slammed into a pole and burst into flames.
And amazingly, the driver walked away without a scratch.
“This was where the engine of the car was, and then I saw the other half of a car 100 feet up this way that was on fire,” crash witness Julie Evans Reid said.
Reid was driving in traffic behind the violent crash witnesses described as an explosion of car parts.
“It sheared off, I mean, I don’t know what that is, part of an engine,” Reid said.
One witness figured the driver of the new red mustang was going 90 in a 35 zone, when he lost control, slammed into a pole, sheared the car into burning pieces, which went tumbling down the Burke Gilman trail, spraying a hail of bolts and glass everywhere.
When the smoke cleared, Julie was in disbelief.
“That is gentlemen actually, literally, is like he fell off his bike and got up and walked away,” Reid said.
The driver showed paramedics he was OK.
“His window wasn’t even broken on that car, yet the car was cut in half,” another witness Greg Reid said.
Greg took photos and video of the bizarre crash scene.
He can only describe what he saw.
“There was a speaker in the sidewalk intact, perfect. Cellphone, bent, mangled…” Greg said.
“Impossible for anybody to be outside that car, standing there on their own two feet,” Greg added.
The only part still intact was the driver’s seat, which was on the pavement of the trail.
The speeding wreckage missed hitting anyone on the trail.
“It’s a heavily trafficked bike path as you can see,” Julie said.
Seattle police let the uninjured driver go, while they investigate and decide how to charge a man witnesses still can’t believe is alive.
