CONCORD (KRON) –Several smash-and-grab auto burglaries have been reported in the parking lot of a Concord restaurant.

Police said thieves are not only targeting vehicles with vaulables left inside, but as investigators show KRON, the restaurant’s location is also attracting theives as well.

It’s a story you will only see on KRON.

The I-680 freeway, or a walking trail, are the two options for auto burglars targeting vehicles near the Elephant Bar restaurant in Concord

The restaurant is a short distance from the Concord Police Department

Police said the Elephant Bar parking lot is one of those locations without security cameras. However, management does have signs posted advising the restaurant is not liable for items stolen from vehicles.

Investigators said in three recent incidents, thieves are smashing auto windows and grabbing what they see.

In one case, two laptops, a projector, and two iPads were all taken from a car, police said. The items were valued at over $5000.

In terms of slowing down the auto burglars getaway, nothing can be done about the restaurant’s close proximity to the I-680 freeway, police said.

Patrols have been increased, and police are also advising people not to leave valuables out in the open in their vehicles.
