Video: California sees more summerlike heat before rain and snow

LOS ANGELES (AP) – California is having another day of unseasonable warmth before a low-pressure system brings rain and snow.

Temperatures at numerous locations from metropolitan Los Angeles to the greater San Diego area reached the 80s by midmorning Tuesday.

Downtown Los Angeles was a record 89 degrees on Monday, among numerous high-temperature marks broken or tied statewide since last week. The Presidents Day holiday saw big crowds flock to beaches.

A big change is expected overnight as high pressure moves east and onshore flow returns, bringing widespread rain in the north and a chance in the south.

Winter storm watches will be posted Wednesday into Thursday from the southern Cascades down through the Sierra Nevada, with some snow accumulations of 18 inches to 2 feet.
