SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — There is another kind of protest brewing, and you might soon be seeing the hashtag Calexit.
We have seen that some people are upset about the upcoming Trump presidency, and now, Calexit is trending on social media.
It is about Californians who insist they want the state to secede from the United States, reminiscent of the Brexit movement to leave the European union.
They are leading a campaign aimed at putting a referendum on the 2018 ballot.
California was solidly behind Hillary Clinton, with 61 percent of the electoral votes.
Examples of some of the Calexit tweets are the person who said, “I’m all in. We could elect Bernie aSnders as our leader.”
And another said, “Any chance California can pull a Brexit and leave the U.S.? Honestly scared right now.”
It is not clear how serious they are or whether this will have any long-term traction.
But it is just another example of how some people are eager to show their disapproval.
