BERKELEY (KRON) — Berkeley police have arrested a suspect accused of a shooting that led to a neighborhood shelter-in-place in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Delaware Street, according to Sgt. Andrew Frankel.
Frankel said the suspect was taken into custody at around 12:44 p.m. Wednesday when the suspect surrendered at the police station.
The shooting happened at around 11:33 a.m. Tuesday when police received reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old man shot, Frankel said.
The victim is currently in critical condition and recovering at Highland Hospital in Alameda County.
Police are not releasing the suspect’s name at this time.
Officers were in the area bounded by Tenth Street, Delaware Street, Ninth Street, and Hearst Avenue searching for the suspect. A shelter-in-place was in order for residents.
At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, a man and woman were shot in the area of Prince and Tremont streets, near the Ashby BART station in Berkeley, and were taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.
Frankel said the shooting doesn’t appear to be random but police don’t think it is connected to the shooting in West Berkeley on Tuesday morning.Bay City News contributed to this report
