NEWARK(KRON)— Congressman Mike Honda is working with Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O’Malley are pushing for untested rape kits to be processed.
About 400,000 to 500,000 kits are on the shelves nationwide waiting for testing.
About 1,000 of the 2,000 kits in Alameda County have not been tested yet.
Honda has supported a Federal grant that advocates for these types of kits not to be backlogged.
He has been able to allocate $80 million toward the program as the top Democrat on the subcommittee dealing with justice appropriations.
District Attorney Nancy O’Malley has also been advocated for the same cause for years.
