OAKLAND (KRON) — We all know how crowded BART trains have become, and how often riders have to stand, but sometimes, they are standing because someone is taking up two seats.
On Thursday, the BART board took aim at those people with a new ordinance.
BART director Joel Keller has authorized a seat hog ordinance giving police the authority to issue warnings, citations, and fines for those who are taking up more than one seat on BART.
Some BART directors, though, said they think this goes too far.
But by a 5-4 vote, the board passed the ordinance, which will go into effect once BART police draft enforcement policies.
