BAKERSFIELD (KRQE) — A school district in Bakersfield is fighting a mother’s request to put a GPS tracker on her daughter with autism.
Darcy Cotton says she loses sleep worrying that her 6-year-old daughter will wander away.
A study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that roughly half of all children with autism wander at least once.
The superintendent says there are still many questions about the device, and has concerns that it could be a privacy issue for both students and staff.
A meeting is scheduled for Friday to discuss the matter.
