LAKE COUNTY (KRON) — A suspect is in custody after two people were shot dead and two others were injured, including a California Highway Patrol officer, in Clearlake Oaks Monday.

A shooting prompted a shelter in place at around 12 p.m. Monday near the Clear Lake Oaks Post Office, located at 13280 E Highway 20, sheriff’s officials said.

CHP Officer Kory Reynolds says the injured officer responded the report of a shooting was following the suspect when the person fired at him.

Police say the CHP officer was wearing body armor so the bullet hit the body armor and did not penetrate him.

The officer’s leg was wounded. He has been treated and released.

Two other people who shot were taken to a local hospital.

The suspect fled the area and went to a local gas station where there was another shooting with a civilian who was a CCW holder.

He then led deputies on a pursuit in a remote area of Clearlake Oaks.

Deputies were able to set up a roadblock and he surrendered without incident.

Sheriff’s officials there is a total of seven crime scenes, including two difference homicide crime scenes.

KRON4’s Camila Bernal learned that the man arrested is 61-year-old Alan Ashmore.

He is being questioned and faces at least two counts of murder, according to sheriff’s officials.

Deputies are currently trying to determine what his motivations were and whether this was targeted.

The two homicide victims are male. The other victims include both men and women.Stay with KRON4 for updates.
