SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 15 children after their 30-foot catamaran flipped over in San Francisco Bay Saturday afternoon.

The Coast Guard got a call at about 3:30 p.m. from the crew of the crew of the ferry Old Blue who saw the boaters in the water near Aquatic Park.

The catamaran was full of Sea Scouts who are part of the Boy Scouts of America program. The Sea Scout program is designed to teach safe boating to young Boy Scouts.

A Coast Guard crew responded to help marine police rescue the 16 who were taken to hospitals as a precaution.

The adult and all the scouts were wearing lifejackets.

Crews are investigating as to how the boat flipped over.
