OAKLAND (KRON) — Emergency crews are responding to a construction site building collapse that injured 13 people Friday morning in Oakland.

The accident happened at 3093 Broadway near Hawthorne Ave., where crews were building a 423-unit apartment complex that would include two stories of retail space.

No one was killed in the incident, but multiple people were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Some workers were pouring concrete when the floor collapsed beneath them. Five of the crew members fell into the cement. It is unclear if they are stuck in the concrete at this time.

Johnstone Moyer, Inc. is the general contracting company overseeing the project.

Reports from the past five years show that the San Carlos-based company has a pretty clean track record.

They’ve been inspected eleven times and had four violations, all non-injury related, in that time span.

A subcontractor, Largo Concrete, Inc., was hired to pour the concrete. Similar to Johnstone Moyer, the company has been inspected eleven times in the past five years and was found guilty of four violations.

Their violations, however, were accident-related, and they were found to be at fault for two of the incidents.

There are street closures from Sprouts Farmers Market at 3035 Broadway, all the way to Kaiser Permanente at 3600 Broadway.

The public is asked to avoid the area.

Further details are unavailable at this time.Stay with KRON4 News for updates
