MUNICH, GERMANY (KRON) – Munich police chief Hubertus Andraes says the suspect in the Munich shooting is an 18-year-old German-Iranian from Munich.
Andraes said at a news conference that the attacker’s motive was still “fully unclear.”
Andraes said that the body of the shooter found about 2 1/2 hours after the attack was determined to be the shooter based on the evaluation of witness statements and closed circuit television.
Two others who fled the area quickly were investigated but had “nothing to do with the incident”
— Ten people have died and many are injured after a shooting at a shopping center in Munich, Germany on Friday.
Police said, they believe the shooter acted alone and killed himself after the mass shooting.
Shortly before 6:00 p.m., shots were fired at Olympia Einkaufszentrum shopping center in the northern part of Munich not far from the city’s Olympic Stadium in the Moosach district of the Bavarian capital.
The shooting has ended and a police operation is underway.
Police said, “we expect multiple dead” in Munich mall shooting, according to Germany’s dpa news agency.
The attack started at a fast food restaurant in the mall according to Munich police spokesperson, Thomas Baumann. Shops had closed with customers inside, public broadcaster Bayrischer Rundfunk reported.
Munich police are hunting for the shooter or shooters but no one is captured yet, Germany’s news agency dpa said.
Police said witnesses reported seeing three different people with guns near the Olympia Einkaufszentrum mall.
Police have responded in large numbers. Munich police urge people to stay home or go indoors as they hunt for mall shooter or shooters.
“At the moment no culprit has been arrested,” Munich police said on social media. “The search is taking place at high speed.”
Munich police spokeswoman Claudia Kuenzel said there were “several dead and wounded” in the shooting. She could not provide exact numbers.
Munich’s transit system has shut down following shooting, according to Munich’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung paper.
