NAPA COUNTY (KRON) — The area of the massive Valley Fire is expecting rain Wednesday afternoon and now evacuees at evacuation centers all over the North Bay are preparing for showers.

The Red Cross is at evacuation centers with donations and supplies to help make the evacuees as comfortable as possible.

KRON4’s Averi Harper went to the largest evacuation center in Calistoga at the Napa County Fairgrounds to find out what kind of preparations were underway.

Harper spoke with Patrick McKenna, a shelter manager for Red Cross, Wednesday morning as people started to wake up and began preparing for the rain.

“We’ve been spending the last couple of days packing up all the donated stuff onto pallets and wrapping up in plastic to make sure nothing gets wet or ruined,” McKenna said.

McKenne says the Red Cross has 200 extra cots with blankets and comfort kids in shelter areas for residents camping outside.

There are two shelter spaces, according to McKenna. One shelter is already half full with the elderly who cannot stay outside. Any open space is available for people who prefer to sleep indoors during the rain.

The Red Cross also has tarps and tents available for those who choose to stay outdoors.

“We have donated a lot of large yellow slickers available for people who are really hardcore about staying out in the rain,” McKenna said.
