VALLEJO (KRON) — Early this morning a police pursuit of two teens ended with a crash in Vallejo, according to police.
The pursuit began around 12:50 a.m., and the crash happened between Capital and Virginia streets, police said.
It started when police came across a blue Honda Civic that had been reported stolen in an armed car-jacking the previous evening in Fairfield.
The officers attempted to stop the car, but the driver did not pull over. Instead, the driver sped up, ignored police car sirens and was running red lights while headed southbound on Sonoma Boulevard from Florida Street, authorities said.
Police reported that it seemed like the driver lost control of the car before striking a cement retaining wall of a parking lot just north of Jeffrey Alley.
The driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, and the passenger, an 18-year-old Antioch resident, were trapped in the vehicle. Extensive work was required to get them out. Both were taken to a local hospital with severe injuries.
Officers found a replica firearm in the car the suspects were driving, and are working to determine if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
The collision is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Waylon Boyce of the Vallejo Police Department Traffic Division – (707) 648-4013.
