VACAVILLE (KRON) — An elementary school student with special needs suffered minor burns after a heater hose broke on their school bus, spraying hot coolant in the rear of the bus.

According to a Vacaville city spokesman, the Vacaville Unified School District bus was traveling south on Peabody Road just south of Elmira Road when the incident occurred around 7:35 a.m., city spokesman Mark Mazzaferro said.

The engine, which is located at the rear of the bus began spraying scalding coolant which got on the special needs student.

He was taken to a hospital as a precaution, Mazzaferro said.

Another bus arrived and transported the children on the bus to school after the incident.

An investigation is being launched to determine why the coolant sprayed according to the California Highway Patrol.
