WASHINGTON, D.C. (KRON) — Police officer Darren Wilson won’t be prosecuted in the shooting death of an unarmed black teen that led to weeks of protests.
That’s the decision made by the Justice Department early Wednesday morning.
Federal officials decided that Wilson’s testimony that he feared for his safety could not be disproved, nor was there indisputable evidence that Michael Brown had his hands up when he was shot on August 9.
Because of the high legal standard for a federal civil rights prosecution, this decision had been expected.
During investigations into the shooting, Wilson said that Brown hit him in the face and was reaching out for his gun during a fight.
In November, Wilson was cleared by a Missouri grand jury and subsequently resigned from the police force.
