OAKLAND (BCN) — A woman suffered minor injuries when she escaped from a burning apartment building in North Oakland through a second-story window this afternoon, a fire battalion chief said.

The fire broke out just before 12:30 p.m. in a hallway between the apartments behind It’s All Good Bakery at 5622 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

Fire investigators still aren’t sure what caused the fire, but it’s considered suspicious, Battalion Chief Geoff Hunter said.

Since the hallway was burning one woman escaped from the fire through her second-story window, Hunter said. While he wasn’t sure if she had to jump, Hunter said her injuries were minor.

The fire burned the hallway and spread into one of the apartments before firefighters had it under control about 20 minutes later. No firefighters were injured, Hunter said.
